World Reflexology Week 2017
World Reflexology Week celebrates the continued advancement and recognition of reflexology as an effective holistic therapy globally. Reflexology therapists and associations around our planet will be hosting free workshops and assisting at charity events in order to raise the awareness of our therapy.
Reflexology as we know it in modern times was investigated and developed in the late 1800’s and early 1990’s, first by medical doctor William Fitzgerald but more notably by Eunice Ingham who applied the pressure therapy findings to the feet. Eunice coined the term ‘reflexology’ to describe the application of specific types of pressure to areas of the feet (termed reflexes) which have been shown to correspond with body organs and systems.
Reflexology benefits include improved circulation and balancing of body systems. The treatment is adaptable to many conditions and many benefits have been reported by clients through the years.
Continuous professional training is a requirement of all associations of reflexology. I am a member of Irish Reflexologists Institute Ltd. The additional benefit of my membership is that my clients can avail of partial or full refund of the therapy fees from their health insurer (once they have the appropriate level of insurance cover).
My contribution to World Reflexology Week is deferred to October 4th in Carlow Library where I will be hosting a FREE WORKSHOP in self-care with particular emphasis on anxiety. I also launch my book Seven C’s to Calm during this workshop. I will provide tips as outlined in my book, a demonstration of reflexology self-treament and a short meditation.
